This tool classifies a newborn's absolute birthweight, entered in grams, into six standard clinical bands — from micropreemie through macrosomia — each linked to its associated neonatal risks and care implications, per the tool's own reference data. It classifies by weight alone, not by weight relative to gestational age: the screen's own footnote directs clinicians to the Fenton or Intergrowth-21st growth charts for size-for-gestational-age (SGA/AGA/LGA) determination, which this specific tool does not perform. 3 Formula & method

The tool performs a direct grams-in, category-out lookup rather than a calculated formula, using six bands taken verbatim from the app's own data: Micropreemie (<750 g), Extremely Low Birth Weight/ELBW (<1000 g), Very Low Birth Weight/VLBW (1000–1499 g), Low Birth Weight/LBW (1500–2499 g), Normal Birth Weight/NBW (2500–3999 g), and Macrosomia/HBW (≥4000 g, with the app further noting Grade II at ≥4500 g and Grade III at ≥5000 g). Each band in the app carries a short clinical-implications note (for example, ELBW is linked to elevated risk of respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular haemorrhage, necrotising enterocolitis, sepsis, and patent ductus arteriosus, requiring NICU-level respiratory and nutritional support). Important: this classifies absolute birthweight only — it is explicitly not a size-for-gestational-age (SGA/AGA/LGA) tool.
